Files open in Yandex Browser even though the "Open PDF files in browser" option is disabled

Check the operating system settings:

This instruction was written for Windows 10.

  1. Go to Start → Settings → Apps.

  2. In the Default apps section, click Choose default apps by file type.

  3. Find the desired file type (for example, .pdf).

  4. Click the app to the right of the file type.

  5. In the window that opens, select the default app for this file type.

  1. Find a PDF file.

  2. Right-click it to open the context menu.

  3. Click Open With Other Application. The system automatically recognizes your choice and selects the latest application the next time you open the file.

  1. Go to Finder and find a PDF file.

  2. Right-click it to open the context menu.

  3. Click Open with → Other.

  4. If Yandex Browser is set by default, select another application.

  5. Select Always open in the app.

  6. Save the changes.

What other file formats can I open in Yandex Browser?

  • SXW

Yandex Browser blocks file downloads

The browser blocks a file download if it contains a malicious program. To find out more, see Blocking dangerous files.

You can disable site and file safety checks:

  1. In the upper-right corner, click  → Settings.

  2. Go to the Security tab at the top of the page.

  3. In the Protection from malicious files and websites section, uncheck the box labeled Run security checks on websites and downloaded files.

Download was interrupted

Try to restart the download:

  1. Click  → Downloads or press Ctrl + J.
  2. Select the file you need.
  3. On the right, click More → Resume download.

If the download isn’t restarted, try downloading the file again:

  1. Click  → Downloads or press Ctrl + J.
  2. Select the file you need.
  3. On the right, click More → Download again.

The download may be affected by the antivirus installed on your computer. Try temporarily disabling it and download the file again.

Files take too long to download
  1. Open  → Extensions and turn off all extensions.

  2. Download the files again.

The browser takes too long to check files

Alert

You can disable downloaded file checks, but this would require you to disable protection from malicious sites and malware in Yandex Browser completely. We strongly recommend that you don’t do this.

If you want to disable file checks:

  1. In the upper-right corner, click  → Settings.

  2. Go to Security.

  3. In the Protection from malicious files and websites section, uncheck the box labeled Run security checks on websites and downloaded files.

The image is downloaded in WebP format

The format of the downloaded image depends on the server. The server might generate a WebP format if it detected Yandex Browser as a program that recognizes WebP. In this case, Yandex Browser cannot affect the format selection.

Not all images are downloaded in WebP. For example, an image from Yandex Images will be saved in JPEG format.

Couldn't download files from Google Drive
  1. Go to the Google Drive website. On the right side of the SmartBox, click .
  2. Under Trackers on this web page, click Site not working?
  3. In the window that opens, click Allow third-party cookies.
There's no notification when a download is complete

A notification that the download is complete appears if:

  • The download takes more than 15 minutes.
  • Multiple files are downloaded.

Check if notifications of completed downloads are enabled in Yandex Browser:

  1. Click  → Settings → Tools.

  2. Under Downloads, enable Notify me when a download is complete.
